What are the Causes of polycystic ovary disease?

In the first place, doctors put endocrine disorders. Their cause is usually called a failure of the interaction between the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and ovaries. However, hereditary factors are also considered. There are a number of causes of PCOD:

  • Malfunction of the pituitary and hypothalamus (these important glands regulate the entire endocrine system, including the ovaries);
  • Disruption of the adrenal glands leads to an increase in the level of male sex hormones in a woman;
  • Incorrect work of the ovaries;
  • Malfunctions of the pancreas;
  • Excess insulin in the body;
  • Traumatic injuries of the pelvic organs;
  • Complications during childbirth;
  • Obesity;
  • Hypertonic disease;
  • Diabetes;
  • Infectious diseases;
  • Congenital pathological conditions of the genital area;
  • Spontaneous abortions, artificial termination of pregnancy;
  • Inflammatory diseases of the female reproductive system;
  • Hypothermia;
  • Sudden weight loss, anorexia;
  • Climate change;
  • Mental disorders.
  • Amidst this intricate web of factors, Dr. Erande at our clinic specializes in decoding and addressing these interconnected health challenges, offering expert guidance and personalized strategies for comprehensive well-being.

What Are the Signs of Polycystic Ovary Disease?

Symptoms of PCOD typically develop during puberty, get worse over time, and vary from woman to woman.

In girls with PCOD, menstruation usually does not start at puberty, and the ovaries do not release eggs (that is, women do not ovulate) or release them irregularly. Women or girls who have already had menarche may have irregular vaginal bleeding, or menstrual periods may stop.

Additionally, they may develop symptoms related to high levels of male hormones, a process called masculinization or virilization. Common symptoms of PCOD include acne and an increase in body hair (hirsutism). Rarely, the changes include a deeper voice, reduced breast size, increased muscle mass, male-pattern hair growth (for example, on the chest and face), and thinning hair or baldness.

Many women with PCOD are overweight, but some are thin. Excessive insulin production contributes to weight gain and makes weight loss more difficult. Excess insulin due to insulin resistance can also make the skin in the armpits, neck, and skin folds dark and thick (a disorder called acanthosisnigricans).
